APOHAQUI
...is the childhood home of former N.B. Premier Frank McKenna. Mr. McKenna was appointed Canada's ambassador to the U.S. in January, 2005.

 

BELLISLE

The Belleisle ferry is the longest cable ferry in the world? And that Canada’s first cable ferry was installed at Gondola Point near Quispamsis?

 

GAGETOWN
...is the birthplace of Sir Leonard Tilley, one of Canada's founding fathers.

...is home to The Loomcrofters, one of the mostly highly esteemed weaving institutions in Canada. The business is housed in a blockhouse, the oldest, most continuously used building on the St. John River.

...is well known for its rich apple harvest. Whether picked fresh from the tree or sipped as sweet cider, the ruby red fruit is popular in all seasons.

 

GRAND LAKE

... is the largest lake in Canada east of the Grand Lakes. It's approximately 26 miles long and five miles wide.

 

HAMPTON
...is Kings County's Shiretown. It is home to the Kings County Museum.

...is the birthplace of Dr. John Peters Humphrey, writer of International Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. The declaration was adopted by the United Nations on Dec. 10, 1948. Mr. Humphrey graduated from Rothesay Collegiate.
Well respected as a teacher of international law, Mr. Humphrey founded the Human Rights Division of the UN Secretariat in 1946. He wrote the first draft of the universal declaration the following year.
However, credit for his world-altering work came much later. Rene Cassin, France's representative on the UN Commission on Human Rights, who assisted in completing the declaration, was long accredited for the piece, winning a Nobel Peace Prize for it. Humphrey died on March 14, 1995 at 89 years old. He is buried in Hampton.

 

SUSSEX

…Sussex is reputed to be the birthplace of the ice cream cone.

…is home to the Agricultural Museum of New Brunswick

…is home to Atlantic Canada's premier hot air ballooning event each September. On the weekend after Labour Day, 40,000 people visit the Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta to watch 30 hot air balloons fly through the surrounding valley.

 

...is home to the best butter in the world. Dairytown Products earned the title in 2004.
 
...boasts the oldest agricultural society in the world. The Sussex and Studholm Agricultural Society was formed in 1841.
 
...hosts the country's largest outdoor flea market each summer? Upwards of 1,000 tables fill Princess Louise Park during the third weekend of August, making it a must-visit for 30,000 bargain hunters.
